Nova i Scutum

V659 SCUTI = NOVA SCUTI 2019 = TCP J18395972-1025415 = AT 2019TPB

Position:

RA 18h39m59s.72, DEC -10d25'41".5 (J2000),
designation TCP J18395972-1025415.

Hideo Nishimura (Japan), recorded mag 9.8 and end figures 59s.64, 42".4 on
CCD frames of Oct. 29.421 with a Canon EOS 6D digital camera + 200-mm-f.l.
f/3.2 lens) and by Shizuo Kaneko (Japan), mag 9.8 and position end figures
59s.86, 40".8 on Oct. 29.462 with a Canon 6D digital camera + 200-mm-f.l.
f/3 lens).

Additional CCD magnitudes indicate a continued brightening: Oct. 28.064 UT,
[17.1 (ASAS-SN); 29.453, 9.4 (A.Takao, Japan; position end figures 59s.54,
42".2); 29.469, 9.0 (K. Itagaki, Yamagata, Japan; position end figures
59s.70, 41".5;

Visual magnitude estimate: Oct. 29.749, 9.3 (Schmeer).

Spectroscopy was reported by S. C. Williams et al. on ATEL 13241:
"We obtained a spectrum of the transient AT 2019tpb/ASASSN-19aad
with the FRODOSpec spectrograph (Barnsley et al.) on the 2-m Liverpool
Telescope on 2019 Oct 29.81 UT.

The spectrum shows Balmer lines, which exhibit P-Cygni profiles. They
measured the maximum velocity of the Hα absorption component to be
~1500 km/s. They also find lines from He I (6678, 7065Å) and O I
(7773Å) at the red end of the spectrum, which also all show P-Cygni
profiles. There are numerous lines blueward of Hβ, mainly absorption
lines, although some may have weak emission components.

This spectrum shows that AT 2019tpb/ASASSN-19aad is a Galactic nova in the
early stages of eruption.

N. Samus writes that the permanent GCVS designation V659 Sct has been
assigned to this nova.
